Philosophy
Re-creating, my way of life, an internal guidance for problem solving, personal expression and means of reaching out and connecting. A catalyst for change, I envision the future and establish environments to prepare people of all ability to have fun while meeting life's challenges together.
One Step Further - creates environments in which participants recognize that solutions materialize when we utilize the resources of each other.
One Step Further - invites individuals with disabilities to create solutions to challenges.
One Step Further - accomplishes our goals through workshops, courses and instructional recreation programs where we welcome and include presenters and participants of all ability.
History
Paula Wanzer, MA, CTRS/L, is licensed and certified as a recreation therapist. Her educational background is eclectic, consisting of expertise in physical education, exercise, recreation, outdoor education, education and the creative arts. Receiving her Masters Degrees from Lesley University, Cambridge, MA, Paula designed it to provide her expertise in Special Education and Movement
With an extensive background in developing recreational programs, she creates innovative programs that emphasize skill mastery. She has established these programs in schools, daycare centers, institutions and at camps. A recreation therapist, she develops innovative programs that involve adventure, the creative arts, exercise and dance.
In 1988, she formed One Step Further with the help of Nancy Pleiter-Sadowy, who has moved to Maine and has begun her own business, Choose To Swim, LLC. The goal was to create innovative programs within the community. In this, the 20th anniversary of One Step Further, Paula continues to create exciting leisure and education programs for individuals of all ability. She create exciting and creative environments where individuals of all ability come together to learn together as they play. She continues to conduct instructional programs and lead workshops where she trains teachers, recreation personnel, direct support staff and parents in the art of community building through play.
Certifications
Paula is certified as:
a recreation therapist by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification.
a lifeguard with CPR and First Aid through the American Red Cross.
Adapted Aquatics Master Teachers through the American Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.
a tandem flat water instructor and has an Adaptive Paddling Endorsement. through the American Canoe Association
Paula is also licensed by the State of New Hampshire as a recreation therapist
