A User's Guide To The Brain

Goal:

To provide you with the tools that will assist you to create a dynamic aquatics program for individuals of all ability

Objectives:

Participants will be able to:

  • Assess swimming readiness

  • Conduct three warm up activities

  • Design activities that increase a student's strength, flexibility and endurance

  • Implement three instructional strategies that include all individuals

Purpose:

One Step Further follows the credo, Form follows Function.  All movement emanates from the trunk.

Function means having the back strength, trunk rotation, flexibility and endurance to support skill development.

Form is the ability to perform skills such as kicks, floats, arm strokes and rhythmic breathing.

In this workshop you experience:

  • strategies that work

  • the affects of movement challenges have on all individuals

  • the results of successful strategies

Workshop Description:

Engage in discussion, activity, audio-visual presentations and lecture. To enhance your learning experience, we utilize the arts, exercise and specific instructional strategies to connect the research with actual activity that reinforces cognition, social and emotional development.  We ‘walk the talk’ together—with multiple exercises that enable you to utilize this material at home, in the community or in a classroom. As you experience these instructional strategies and challenges, you will be able to immediately plan ways to integrate them into your environment and enhance your instruction.
